Barnes and Noble Fundraiser - Art Show

Mark Rothko inspired art with QR code
The Forest North Library had the Barnes and Noble Fundraiser on Saturday and student artwork was displayed in the Cafe for all of the customers to see!

We had a great selection of Art by Forest North students from Pre-Kindergarten to 5th graders.
Thanks Mrs. Fournier for letting us have a display at your fundraiser!

One of the new items I added this year to the display were QR codes.  I created a code, like a UPC code and attached it next to the artwork.  When parents or viewers scan the QR code it directs them to the Fineart206 blog.  This way, you can see pictures and read about the art process.   It was a great addition to the show!

Fifth grade Book Studies with Tea

Most of the Artwork was created earlier in November but, when the Art students were asked to participate, I thought it would be a great time to introduce shading and perspective to my Fifth graders. Together, we drew basic rectangles and then I showed them how to turn that into a three-dimensional shape, all by using diagonal lines.
Once the blending  and shading was complete we made some tea....... but not to drink!  We used it to stain their papers.  I suggested staining different areas on and around the books and where the shadows were and my  students showed off their creativity and their personalities by painting the tea all over or making it look like a ring of coffee spilled on their paper!  I love it!  What a great addition! And so clever!
Next, I introduced shading and blending sticks.  They really liked using these!  This would be a great holiday gift for any young artist on your list!

The First graders had begun making these adorable puppies before our Thanksgiving break and they are probably my favorite project so far this year.
First grade Newspaper Puppies!

We discussed shape, once again in art, making connections to the shape of a dogs ear, or their eye, or their nose.
The students were then given newspaper and were told to draw their dog right on the newspaper, using basic geometric shapes of triangles, circles, a few diamond shapes and a few tear-drop shapes thrown in there for some dogs ears.
They were then give a black marker to make the eyes, nose and collar if they wanted to add that detail.  Some even cut out shapes out of an old book to make the eyes and to show the different color variations on  dogs!  I think these are super-cute!
